An editor that keeps up
Around 140 languages, multi-cursor, folding, minimap, split view, Markdown preview and Vim mode. Opens big files instantly.
Version 0.1.0 · free
A fast, small code editor with Claude built in. Everything you reach for in VS Code — explorer, search, terminal, Git — in an app that downloads in seconds.
macOS · Windows · Linux · Android · iOS · Web — the Mac and Windows apps download in a few MB
Libella uses your system's own web engine and a small Rust core instead of bundling a browser, so the whole app is about 7 MB on a Mac.
Around 140 languages, multi-cursor, folding, minimap, split view, Markdown preview and Vim mode. Opens big files instantly.
⌘P fuzzy file search, ⇧⌘P command palette, and project-wide search & replace with regex — powered by the engine behind ripgrep.
Your login shell in true colour, several tabs, clickable links. Run builds and tests without leaving the editor.
See changes, read diffs, stage, commit, sync and switch branches. Uses your installed Git and its credentials.
Install VS Code colour themes and snippets from Open VSX — Dracula, One Dark Pro, Catppuccin, GitHub and thousands more — plus Libella extensions like Prettier, sandboxed so they can't touch the network.
VS Code shortcuts out of the box: ⌘B, ⌘J, ⌃`, ⌘\, ⌘W, ⇧⌘T and the rest.
The same Libella on macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS, plus a web version that opens folders straight from your disk.
Libella AI
Libella AI runs on Claude (Opus 5 by default; Sonnet, Haiku and Fable available) with your own Anthropic API key. The key stays on your device and requests go straight to Anthropic — Libella has no server in the middle.
Free. No account. Version 0.1.0.
The Windows installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen asks once: choose More info → Run anyway. The Mac app is signed and notarized by Apple and opens straight away.
Colour themes and snippets, yes: the Extensions view (⇧⌘X) installs them straight from Open VSX, the open VS Code marketplace. Extensions that run code need VS Code's Node.js extension host, so Libella has its own extensions for those — Prettier, Text Tools and TODO Finder to start with — each running in a sandbox.
Only when you use Libella AI, and then only to Anthropic's API with your own key: the open file, your selection and the files the agent reads. Nothing else leaves your device.
Libella is free. Claude usage is billed by Anthropic to your API key at their standard prices; each answer shows how many tokens it used.
Libella is built with Tauri: the interface runs in the web engine your system already has, and the heavy lifting (files, search, terminal) is done by a small Rust core.
